DID Lesson

Step 1: Know the Learner
The topic for the week will be Ordinal Numbers and Positional Words. Kindergarten students have already learned about how numbers can mean words.  The following lesson will focus more on review, then go into using “key”  words to locate pictures.
Step 2: Articulate Objectives
TEKS: K.11 The student uses time to describe, compare, and order events and situations.
B) Sequence events (up to three).
K.2 The student describes order of events or objects.
A) Use language such as before, or after to describe relative position in a sequence of events or objects;
B) Name the ordinal positions in a sequence such as first, second, third, etc

By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:
·     Put pictures or people in order by using ordinal numbers.
·     Identify real life situations using ordinal numbers.
·     Demonstrate where an item will go by using positional words.
·     Be able to compare real life situations to ordinal numbers and positional words.

Step 3: Establish the Learning Environment
The classroom will be the main environment for the students.  There will be whole group settings and small group settings during stations.  The teacher will provide manipulatives for classroom use.  Students will Act it Out- Teacher and Kids Line up with teacher. Say: Start at the teacher- who is the 5th kid? Do over and over always-stating start at the teacher (this will help on Math diagnostic later in year. Then I will have a box of crayons and then single crayons lined up.
Say “start at the box, which crayon is 4th?
“start at the box, which crayon is 3rd? 1st? 2nd? Last?  The teacher will observe students behaviors and interaction during the lesson for further understanding of lesson.
Step 4: Identifying Teaching and Learning Strategies
To ensure the lesson serves different teaching and learning styles there will be a variety of math stations for students. “Math Work Stations” for these activities. They are different for each week, based on Number of the Week and concepts taught for reinforcement. I will be using my promethean board for a re-teach of the lesson.  Students will be able to go to that station and work on the same activities from lesson. Computer station will have a review activity for the students who need that little bit of extra help.
Step 5: Identify and Select
Students will use technology such promethean board, voters, and computers to help promote learning and creativity.
Step 6: Assessment and Evaluation
I will be providing cards for students with ordinal numbers and positional words for an assessment of learning.  Students will show me how to put them in order by using their cards.  The other students with positional words will be showing me where certain objects go and what “key” word they have.
